This Chain Of Custody tracks the paper we print your product on, from our presses, to our warehouse, back to our paper vendors, to the paper mills, and eventually back to the forest the trees were originally harvested from. The goal is to ensure that printed materials from Sun Litho bearing the FSC or SFI logos comply with responsible forest management, social, and environmental practices.
Sun Litho is now certified with the two most prominent forest management governing bodies, the Forest Stewardship Counsel (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a global nonprofit entity, established in response to concerns over global deforestation. It is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives taken to date to promote responsible forest management around the globe. FSC independently identifies and tracks wood fibers starting at the forest, and through every step of the procurement, paper manufacture, and printing process, confirming that each supplier in the chain follows the rigorous control and reporting practices required for certification. Not only concerned with forest management, FSC also monitors respect of workers rights, prohibition of the use of hazardous chemicals, and fights against corruption of local laws in regards to wood and fiber production.
FSC certified vendors are audited yearly to check not only compliance, but performance. The FSC logo is trusted world wide by consumers searching for forest products that are beneficial to people and the environment, and also provide ongoing value to business.
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a fully independent North American program based on the promise of bringing together responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions. SFI works with conservation groups, local communities, landowners, and many other organizations. To obtain SFI certification, vendors and manufacturers are subject to stringent independent audits that require that all portions of the SFI standards be met.
These standards encompass forest management and wood and fiber procurement practices in the United States and Canada. The SFI “percentage content” logo makes sustainable forestry less anonymous by providing clear visual clues telling you and your customers the fiber used in printing and packaging papers.
